Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is performed to reduce and eliminate severely sagging skin around the eyes.

What is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is performed to reduce and eliminate severely sagging skin around the eyes. As we age, our skin loses elasticity, and the muscles supporting our eyelids begin to weaken. This can lead to a tired expression and also age your appearance. In some cases, drooping lids can even substantially reduce your peripheral vision.

Thankfully, blepharoplasty can enhance your eyelid contour and restore youth to the area around your eyes. Request a consultation at Emerald Aesthetics Center in Encino to learn more.

How can blepharoplasty help me?

Eyelid surgery is performed for cosmetic reasons or to improve your sight by lifting droopy eyelids out of your field of vision. The procedure is effective for patients who want to correct dark circles or puffy bags around their eyes, wrinkly eyelids with sagging skin, or hooded, hanging upper eyelids.

Why schedule at Emerald Aesthetics Center?

During your initial consultation, Dr. Natalia Tilki will discuss your treatment options and alternatives in great detail. You may be able to receive treatment without the use of surgery. Before the surgery, you will be scheduled for a pre-op appointment 1 to 2 weeks before the actual operation. During this pre-op appointment, you will receive instructions for your surgery, as well as any medical request forms for the necessary blood work or related medical tests.

What can I expect during the procedure?

Blepharoplasty is an outpatient procedure with minimal discomfort or downtime. You will be given a general or local anesthetic, and the length of the surgery is typically 1 to 2 hours.

During the procedure, incisions will be made along the natural crease of your upper eyelids, inside the lower eyelid, and below the lash line of your lower eyelids. Dr. Tilki will redistribute any excess fat, lift the tissues around your eyes, and trim excess skin for a youthful appearance.

The incisions are typically made in inconspicuous places, such as below your lash line, within the inside of the lower eyelid, and along the natural crease of your upper eyelids. As a result, excess fat is repositioned, and excess skin can be removed, restoring your appearance from years past.

What can I expect after the procedure?

Patients who undergo eyelid surgery can typically return to work within 7-10 days. The majority of bruising and swelling will usually fade after 7 days. You should avoid strenuous physical activity during the first 4 weeks of recovery.

Scars from eyelid surgery incisions will begin to fade after a few months, but cosmetics can be used to minimize the effects of bruising. Dr. Tilki will schedule a follow-up appointment to discuss your recovery and progress.
